With the beginninng of the 2024-25 school year just days away, new Newark Central School District faculty and staff participated in an inspiring and dynamic New Teacher Orientation August 22, 23, 26, and 27th at the W-FL BOCES Conference Center.

The training was provided by a team of coaches—Laura Schunk, Amanda Quku, Lisa Eakins, William Bean, Alisa Elder, Aaron Sweet and Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Krista Lewis.
“The orientation was designed to equip new educators with the tools and confidence they need to succeed,” Elder said
“ Participants engaged in team bonding through community circles, explored the qualities of successful lesson plans, and discovered essential technology resources. They delved into content and curriculum, learned about Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, and Midwest PBIS 6 classroom practices. The sessions also focused on self-awareness and co-regulation skills, and safety procedures with Jose Otero. This comprehensive orientation provided a robust foundation for new teachers, setting the stage for a successful start to their teaching careers in Newark.”
‘“Our new teachers received a warm and rigorous welcome and introduction to Newark CSD over the course of their four day orientation,” Lewis said.
“Our instructional coaches led them through a variety of professional learning designed to help them understand Newark expectations and practices in the classroom. We were all very impressed by this group of new teachers. Their eagerness to get started and their desire to learn as much as possible was so noticeable, and I am confident that they will each have a great start in their schools. We are fortunate to have hired such a collaborative, talented group! “
Superintendent Susan Hasenauer, School Administrators, and Board of Education President Julie Nevelizer and Vice President Mary Thoms were among those attending and welcoming new staff at an informal luncheon Aug. 23rd.
Similarly, on Aug. 26th, new staff were treated to a luncheon by the Newark Teachers’ Association.
