Lisa Eakins, instructional coach at NMS who served as Camp Coordinator, said the incoming sixth, seventh and eighth grade students that participated had a blast.

“Students tell us they come to the camp because they really enjoy having things to do during the summer,’’ she said.

And that they did with a wide variety of activities offered built around art, crafts, cooking, cupcake decorating, games, SEL (social emotional learning) and providing community service help at DeMay Living Center, the Wayne County Community Schools Summer Program held at Kelley School and with Newark Education Center students at NMS.

Twelve NMS school staff worked with the campers each day and presenters came in from outside agencies like Scott Wager owner/founder of Expeditions of Empowerment in Canandaigua and Rebecca Fisher from Peaceful Schools in Syracuse.

Eakins said students also enjoyed the four field trips one each week to Hoffman Challenge Course at Cornell University in Ithaca, paddleboarding and kayaking on Canandaigua Lake, Lasertron in Henrietta, and Seabreeze Amusement Park in Rochester.
