Planned by Braxton Guy, the NCSD Community Schools Coordinator, he said NMS staff, Wayne County Community Schools staff, along with youth from the STEADY Work program in Newark all helped manage the activity and concession stations.
Students “paid” for the various activities and concessions with Fox Funds.
Guy said every Middle School student was given $10 in Fox Funds to use at the event, but every student also had the opportunity to “earn” up to $50 in the school currency by having good attendance and not being late for school.
“Students' reactions to “Fox Fun Night” were incredibly positive,” Guy said. “Many students are wanting us to feature these events more frequently.”
“The goal is to continue to build a sense of community with our students. At these events, students have been able to connect with each other along with continuing to build connections with our school staff. The smiles on everyone's faces, both staff and students, prove that community is being built!”
Guy’s hope is also that one evening event will be held each month for the remainder of the school year and the activities will be planned with student input in mind.
