Tenured teachers recognized at reception

At an informal, congratulatory reception in the Newark High School Library September 18th, Newark Board of Education members recognized 10 Newark Central School District teachers who have been granted tenure by the BOE since January.

They included:

  • Zachary Berghash, 7th grade social studies teacher at Newark Middle School

  • Gary Mandell, 6th grade math and science teacher at NMS

  • Melissa Viscusi, vocal music teacher at NMS

  • Amanda Rodas-Richwalder, Kindergarten teacher at Lincoln School

  • Melissa Allison, Kindergarten teacher at Lincoln School

  • Paula Allen, special education teacher at NMS

  • Mary Ciulla, Kindergarten teacher at Perkins School

  • Kristen Harper, Family and Consumer Science teacher at NMS

  • Stacy Waite, 7th grade ELA teacher at NMS

  • Jeffrey Klopotowski, health teacher at NMS

Superintendent Susan Hasenauer congratulated the teachers on achieving their tenure milestone.

“We are so pleased these teachers made Newark their home, “ she said. “We are grateful for their expertise in their content, as well as the connections they make with our students each and every day. We wish them nothing but the best as they continue their career with the Newark Central School District.”

Those unable to attend the reception Berghash, Mandell, Allen, Waite and Ciulla were visited in their classrooms September 19th by BOE President Julie Nevelizer and BOE Vice President Mary Thoms.“Mary and I wanted to recognize their achievement of tenure even though they could not make it to the celebration last night,” Nevelizer said. “It is nice to enhance the feeling of belonging and bring accreditation to our newest tenured teachers. Just look at all the smiles!”
