•The Morning Wellness program at the Newark Middle School & Kelley School begins Monday September 9th. The Site Coordinator at NMS is Henry Kuperus and the program runs Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.. Cameron Lanich is the Kelley School Site Coordinator and the program also runs Monday through Friday from 7:45 to 8:55 a.m..

•The Extended School Day program at Newark High School, NMS, Kelley School and Perkins School (for both Perkins and Lincoln students) will begin Monday, September 16th.

Lisa Zalacca is the Site Coordinator at Kelley School and Elizabeth James and Rebecca Adams are the Site Coordinators at Perkins. The ESD programs run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at both schools.

Jessica Orchard and Lisa Eakins are the Site Coordinators at NMS and Deborah McEwen is the Site Coordinator at NHS. The ESD programs at both schools run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m.

Each of the four ESD programs have an academic component, based on individual or group needs in ELA and/or Math. Depending on the location, students participate in activities such as: cooking, arts/crafts, dance, cooperative games, karate, yoga/mindfulness, STEAM projects, bowling, swimming, gaming, sign language and literacy activities.

“The Morning Wellness and Extended School Day programs provide active supervision in a safe, welcoming environment before and after school as well as give students additional academic lessons and enrichment experiences that support filling the gaps in understanding of content and skills to be successful in their day school setting,” said Dr. Jennifer Sinsebox, Director of Innovation and Grants Services. Among her duties are oversight of the Morning Wellness and ESD programs.

“The programs also give kids chances to engage in activities that they may not necessarily have access to elsewhere,” she continued. “Another benefit is the staff also have the ability to work with the kids in a non-traditional setting to share their own personal passions and skills. This allows students to form relationships to support their social emotional learning. The programs would not be successful without the staff, site coordinators, families, as well as our partners in the Newark community who participate and provide a lot of these services.”

Program Site Coordinators will open enrollment at the start of the school year.

Parents are strongly urged to provide transportation for their children to the Morning Wellness Program and from the ESD programs. School transportation will only be provided on a limited basis, based on capacity.
