Emily Schmitt, who has served as an Administrative Intern/ Assistant Principal at Lyons Middle/High School since February 2023, was appointed the new Assistant Principal at Newark High School by the Newark Board of Education August 7th.

Serving this summer as Lyons-Newark High School Summer School Principal, and in 2023 as Assistant Principal of the LyonsNewark Middle School Summer School, Schmitt is replacing Addie Klaehn.
At NHS, Schmitt will be joining the NHS administrative team of Principal Kelly A. Zielke and Assistant Principal Joe Canori beginning August 21st.

“Emily brings a great skill set and variety of experiences, along with a familiarity with our community. I am very excited to welcome her to our team and start our work together at the High School,” Zielke said.
“Emily’s experience in our district and established relationships with both staff and students will allow her to hit the ground running,” said Superintendent Susan Hasenauer. “With her strong instructional background and years of experience as a teacher, we are excited to add her to the NHS team.”
Prior to working as an Administrative Intern/Assistant Principal in Lyons, Schmitt worked for 20 years teaching Pre-K through 12th grade math courses in the Lyons Central School District. During that time. she was also an Adjunct Instructor from September 2010 until May 2012 at Western Iowa Tech Community College
Schmitt earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education at SUNY Fredonia; her Master’s Degree in Liberal Studies at SUNY Brockport and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Oswego.
She lives in Macedon with husband, Martin, a production manager at Maco Packaging in Newark, and their two sons, Henry, 8 and Barrett, 6
