Parents of NCSD students will receive food after calling the Emergency Food Pantry at 315-332-3200 ext. 2231 and making a request or using the QR code, on the flyer, right, or available on ParentSquare or Facebook to allow parents to fill out a food request form online.
“This is for emergency use and is not a long-term solution, however, we will work with the families directly to link them to long-term supports like SNAP/food stamps, connecting them to the Newark Food Closet and more. We can also help support with non-food items as well,’ said Julia Solan, NCSD Innovation & Grants Department intern, who is also an administrative intern at Perkins School this year.
“This food pantry is an amazing support for our students and families across the district and would not have been possible without our community partners: Foodlink, Newark Rotary, Blessings in a Backpack, and Wayne County Community Schools. Thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way to getting this up and running!”
Kim Howell, left, NHS Community Schools Coordinator, is overseeing the food pantry located in the NHS Library/Community Schools office and is handling all requests for food.
She stressed, however, that individuals approved for the food allocation will NOT receive it at the food pantry location.
“Arrangements for how and where to obtain the food will be made per request,” Howell said.
