NHS Science teacher Lindsay Walters described the event.

“An impressive array of experiments lined the lab benches with students in the class eager to share about their projects. This Science Fair is a six-year tradition. Students complete this project after weeks of rigorous studying for the AP Chemistry exam and class final. Students pick their own topics, perform the experiment and create a tri-fold poster to display their results.

“The Fair elicits a certain degree of nostalgia, with some students even performing experiments they first did in middle school _ though they now have a more advanced understanding of the science at work. Students stand with their posters and give a short presentation to any staff member or fellow classmate who comes to see the Fair. This project gives students not only the chance to ask questions and develop their own procedures, but also a chance to practice public speaking.

“This year's projects ranged from a new twist on the Classic Coke and Mentos reaction to determining the concentration of citric acid in lemon and orange juices through a titration. It was a very successful Science Fair, and we're already looking forward to next year!"

Walters said about 20 people visited the Fair and “they were impressed by the students’ presentations.”

And what did students have to say about the Fair?

Grayson Cole: "I liked the Science Fair because it gave me a chance to dive deeper into a science project that everyone thinks is very simple. It also gave me the opportunity to look at the other in depth projects that my classmates did."

Emma Newark: "I enjoyed the Science Fair and found it extremely helpful in solidifying my learning. Seeing the physical representation of all of the work we had done and different concepts that we have learned was a great way to end the year."
