Over the course of a four-day school week at Newark Middle School, 14, two-person teams competed in the March Madness 2 on 2 Tournament.
On the last day of the after school event March 14th, the final Championship game was played with the two top teams competing. They were: 7th graders Isiah Stephens and Avery Sanon who defeated 8th grade Spanish teacher Matt Roelands and 8th grader Derrick Woolfolk.
During the championship, NMS Principal John Ginter and Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor were the referees for the game.
Braxton Guy, Newark Central School District Community Schools Coordinator, who organized the tournament, noted the S.T.E.A.D.Y. Work Print Shop in Newark made the t-shirts and medallions for the winners.
Guy appreciatively noted 8th grade student Ryann LaRue helped plan this event.
