Job Fair Collaboration proved successful

In times like these when school districts, businesses, and industry are actively working to maintain a strong workforce, the Newark Central School District recently teamed up with the Finger Lakes Regional Office of the New York State Department of Labor and co-hosted The Newark Community Job Fair at Newark Middle School November 30th.

This collaboration was the idea of NCSD Executive Director of Human Resources, Christine Bennett. Newark CSD partnered with the NYS Department of Labor in hopes of attracting more people who are looking for jobs in specific fields or those who would like to learn more about job opportunities, specifically in Newark.

“The New York State Department of Labor reached out directly to Newark businesses and agencies, inviting them to participate at no cost. Newark and surrounding area job seekers received notice of our Job Fair and were invited to attend and learn about great employment opportunities throughout Newark,” she said.

Likewise, after being contacted, 1420 WACK AM and 103.5 Big Dog Country radio in Newark not only participated in the Job Fair along with 12 other area businesses and agencies, but actively promoted the event beforehand which was another win-win.

Twenty-seven individuals looking for employment attended the two-hour Job Fair and afterward a survey of all the participating businesses and agencies revealed each plan to follow up with and interview some of the people looking for work.

“I had some great conversations with a few of the people that attended and am looking forward to connecting with them in the future,’’ said Ryan Silver, Market Manager for the Newark radio stations.
