Newark High School 2022-23 Winter Athletic Teams Given Scholar Athlete Status By State Association
Seven Newark High School winter teams have qualified for State Scholar Athlete Team status.
The recognition is given by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association to varsity athletic teams that collectively achieve averages of 90 or better.
“In order for our teams to achieve the type of success that they did throughout the course of this winter season, it requires an incredible amount of commitment, sacrifice and discipline, both on and off of the playing surface,”said Jonathan Mastin, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics for the Newark Central School District. “To have 7 of our winter sports teams recognized as NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete Team Award winners, on top of winning 6 individual Section V Championships, 3 Section V team Championships, a NYSPHSAA Far West Regional Championship and a NYSPHSAA Championship further demonstrates just how dedicated and special our student athletes are here in Newark. Great teammates take care of business on the playing surface and in the classroom. Congratulations to our student athletes, our coaches, and our families on an exceptional winter sports season. Go REDS!”
